My teething baby won’t sleep

It’s been a hellish 72 hours.

My 10 month olds top teeth are cutting through and as a result we haven’t slept in… three days.

And believe me – I’ve tried.

I’ve also tried every single thing the internet suggests to ease her pain – but all she really wanted was mummy cuddles.

The Better Health Channel says teething begins at different stages for everyone.

“One child may cut their first tooth when only a few months old, while another may not start teething until they are 12 months old or more,” it says.

How to ease the pain for a teething baby:

– Baby Nurofen

– Baby Panadol

– Baby massage

– Breast feeding

– Bottle feeding

– Teething rings

– Bonjela

– Rubbing gums

– Cold face washer

– Hard foods

– Puréed foods

But none of that seemed to work

She wanted to be cuddled to sleep and quite happily would sleep in my arms for 40 minutes before screaming down the house all over againAnd it was even shorter if I even dared to put her ever so carefully back in her cot.

She even refused the breast for two days – which was a stressful time for me.

She’s always been a baby that settled when fed late at night if nothing else would work. So I guess it became a bit of a fallback option for me when things got out of control.

For a baby who has refused the bottle since she was four months old – she eventually took a bottle because she was obviously hungry.

At most we got 40 minutes sleep at a time – but even that long was rare.

Even the during the day instead of sleeping – my usually happy baby became a grissly whinger.

It was tough.

But there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

We had a couple of four hour stints last night and I feel human again.

And my little angel seems much happier too.

I’m just dreading the next lot of teeth to come through.

How can teeth so small cause so much pain? What are your tips for a teething baby?
