Are you tired of hiding from the winter weather on your couch in front of the TV?
It’s time to get outside and make the most of the cooler nights – and the Glow Winter Arts Festival is the perfect way to do exactly that.
Because you can not only take in all of the sights but you can immerse yourself within the art too!
Returning for its fifth year, the free program of outdoor installations will spark your curiosity after-dark in Central Park, Malvern East.
Laser Garden
The Laser Garden is an immersive installation made up of thousands of rotating green laser beams. This is a must see because numerous rays catch the air in clouds of dense fog, and with just a lick of wind the garden changes in shape and size as guests roam freely through the beams.
Revive the reef
In Revive the Reef, step into magical underwater landscape and work with friends and strangers to unwind the pressures threatening the Reef. Together, you’ll transform a bleached white Reef into a kaleidoscope of colour and real Reef sounds.
Neon Glow and Neon Night Garden
Melbourne based international artist Carla O’Brien is back for 2018, bringing oversized GLOW letters and a NEON NIGHT GARDEN, an exciting selection of her most interactive neon installations of things you might find in a garden including a kite, a butterfly, and even a flamingo.
You must see this, because it’s the perfect place for a selfie.
Between the trees
Part interactive tree-installation, part collaborative musical instrument, Melinda Hetzel and Co.’s latest artwork, Between the Trees, is inspired by the connectivity of mycelium, ‘the internet of the forest’. This playful, immersive experience gently reminds us of our connectedness to the natural world and each other.
ANTHROPIC AUGMENTATION
It is the year 2030 and the Yarra has been granted human rights to enhance her protection. For that reason we are being asked who is she and what has been her journey? If elements of the environment are granted human rights how might this impact environmental health and climate action? How might we reconsider human classifications, rights and existence? What is the Yarra’s story and how might we care for her?
The Glow Winter Arts Festival runs from 16 – 19 August from 6pm til 10pm.
Don’t miss out because it really is a sight to see.
