New commemorative certificate for early pregnancy loss

Parents who suffer early pregnancy loss can now apply for a commemorative certificate through the Births, Deaths and Marriages registry in Victoria.

The certificates were designed by artist Till Heike, who opened up about her own loss in the video below.

The certificates may provide solace to families who lose their babies before 20 weeks gestation, which is not normally registered as a birth or a death.

“To be able to provide these certificates to parents is such an important way to acknowledge their baby, and to acknowledge their loss,” Ms Heike said.
