Council wants community input on new sport facility

Malvern East is set to be home to a brand new sport and recreation facility and the council wants your thoughts on what should be included.

The masterplan for Percy Treyvaud Memorial Park will guide the development of a new multipurpose sport and recreation facility that will include a four court indoor stadium.

It will also include upgraded facilities for the Chadstone Bowls Club, Chadstone Tennis Club and seasonal sporting clubs who use the park.

Last year, City of Stonnington Mayor Cr Jami Klisaris said a new indoor facility was needed to meet the needs of netball and basketball in the area.

“Women and girls deserve modern, safe, welcoming and inclusive facilities and this new facility will provide that,” she said.
The multipurpose sport and recreation facility in Stonnington will be one of Council’s largest-ever investments in sporting infrastructure.

At an expected cost of more than $30 million, the stadium will cater for indoor sports, principally netball and basketball, providing a much-needed community asset for local clubs, schools and associations.

Three informal drop-in sessions are planned where you can meet the design team and council representatives to share your ideas.

These will be held near the lacrosse pavilion at Percy Treyvaud Memorial Park on

• Wednesday 25 July 4pm – 6pm

• Friday 27 July 4pm – 6pm

• Saturday 28 July 11am – 3pm

Staff will be outside the lacrosse pavilion or under the pavilion overlooking the oval if the weather is unpleasant, banners will clearly identify the area.

If you can’t make one of these sessions, visit Connect Stonnington to complete a survey until Wednesday 8 August.
