Playgrounds to reopen this week as the state eases restrictions

Children will be able to enjoy playgrounds again across Victoria in welcome news for families.

Premier Daniel Andrews’ announced a raft of measures today, easing restrictions in place for the past 2 months.

He said it was about taking “slow, graduated steps” to reduce restrictions.

“This is all about opening up again, but doing so because we have so many test results and we can be confident about how much virus is out there in the community.”

The easing of restrictions will occur as of May 31 11.59pm.

Key points include:

  • Community facilities and businesses will be able to reopen – including places like libraries and community centres.
  • Toy libraries will remain closed.- Private gatherings at home of 20 people will now be allowed as of 31 May
  • Overnight stays will be allowed (with strict rules) – hotels, motels and so on will be open from June 1
  • Skate parks and playgrounds reopen as of Tuesday
  • Swimming pools will reopen – but numbers capped at 20
